Bata TVC | Lakshmi

A comedic spec commercial directed by Lakshmi Vidyasagar for Bata India as part of Design Project 1 at NID, under faculty guide Hitesh Chaurasia.

An auntie confides in her pet fish with unfiltered neighborhood gossip—from dating scandals to kitty-party fashion envy. Her monologue turns into an enthusiastic endorsement when she reveals that the “designer” sandals her friend wears everywhere are actually from Bata.

As DOP, I chose wide focal lengths placed right in front of the actor to deliberately introduce lens distortion, exaggerating her facial expressions, side-eyes, and theatrical reactions for comedic effect.

The scene was lit with bright, warm domestic high-key lighting to keep the mood playful, before tilting down to capture the footwear for the closing tagline: “Bata — for everyone. even aunties.”
