msinimefoce: Reverse the Crisis

The title, msinimefoce, is “ecofeminism” spelled backwards, and the whole film runs in reverse. It’s about UN SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and the extractive, patriarchal systems behind it.

We staged everything with the reversal in mind, so it’s deliberately abstract and performed instead of realistic. Terracotta pots shatter into crimson pigment on dry ground, then pull themselves back together. Men in dark formal suits carry earthen matkas under empty skies. Blue crystal beads are poured into hands wearing red glass bangles. Everyone moved with a slow, measured rhythm so that the rewind would look intentional once it played backwards.

The audio runs backwards too. Sounds like breathing and impacts swell up and then cut off abruptly, which gives the soundtrack the same strange pull as the picture reassembling itself.

I kept the frame as plain as possible. Every action happens against bare daylight sky or a white background, so nothing competes with the clay, red pigment, water and green saplings.
